This substantive anthology is a wonderful way to access female writers from the world's first know writer, Enheduanna (Sumeria ca. 2300 B.C.E.) to Ntozake Shange (20th century U.S.). Since poetry and songs have always been a primary vehicle for female self expression, these global and historical pieces are a valuable and delightful way to learn about women. The poems are grouped according to region or language; within each they move from early to modern times.
